Emotions

the key to learning.

Multi-year research shows clearly that museums are best at affective learning – learning associated with emotions – which means the key goal of the exhibition maker should be to create the greatest number of opportunities for exploration, discovery and sharing with other visitors. Not all exhibition visitors make sense of the experience in the same way. Some read, some prefer to read to others, whilst still others touch, smell or just scan. The more an exhibition provides different ways to experience the same content, the greater the overall satisfaction is of all the exhibition’s users. Placing too great an emphasis on just reading sends the message that the exhibition is like school – and alienates some visitors.
